Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions people ask first
If your question is not covered here, ask when you book. Amy would rather answer it before your appointment than have you wondering during it.
Getting started
What kinds of patients do you work with?
Amy works with patients across age groups, with clinical interests in orthopedics and sports medicine. In practice that ranges from athletes working back toward a season to adults dealing with a joint problem that has started limiting ordinary days. You do not need to consider yourself an athlete to be a good fit.
What kinds of problems do you address?
Orthopedic and sports-related problems: joints, muscles, and tendons, and the movement limitations that come with them. Whether physical therapy is appropriate for your specific situation is a question the evaluation is designed to answer. If it is not, Amy will tell you and help you find the right next step.
Do I need a referral from a doctor?
Often not. Virginia’s direct access law allows a physical therapist who holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree to evaluate and treat patients without a physician’s referral in many circumstances. If you are already being treated by a physician, podiatrist, chiropractor, dentist, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant for the same problem, the law requires your written consent and notification to that provider within 14 days of starting care.
Your insurance plan is a separate matter and may still require a referral before it will reimburse. Check your plan, and confirm the specifics with Amy when you book.
This is general information about Virginia law, not legal advice or a determination about your situation.
How do I book an appointment?
Through the secure online booking portal, which is the source of truth for available appointment types and times. Open the booking portal (opens in a new tab).
Your appointment
What happens at my first visit?
An evaluation. Amy takes a history, watches how you move, tests what the findings call for, and then explains what she has found and what she recommends. You should leave understanding the problem, the plan, and what you are doing before the next visit. More on what to expect.
What should I wear or bring?
Clothes you can move in that allow access to the area being treated, and training shoes. Bring photo ID, your insurance card if you have one, and any imaging reports, operative notes, or post-surgical protocols. Full list.
Where do appointments take place?
At Precision Performance Physio’s treatment space inside Cardinal CrossFit, 14080 Sullyfield Circle, Suite E & F, Chantilly, VA 20151, with parking directly outside. You do not need a gym membership to be seen. Directions.
How long is an appointment?
Appointment lengths are listed against each appointment type in the booking portal, so you can see the duration before you confirm a time. Check current appointment types (opens in a new tab).
How many visits will I need?
It depends on what is going on, how long it has been going on, and what you are working toward. Anyone who gives you a number before evaluating you is guessing. After your evaluation Amy will give you her honest expectation and revisit it as the plan progresses. Individual results vary.
Do you see minors?
Amy works with patients across age groups. A parent or legal guardian must attend and provide consent for a patient under 18. If you are booking for a student athlete, mention the sport and the season when you book.
Payment and policies
Do you accept insurance?
Precision Performance Physio is an out-of-network cash practice. You stay with the same physical therapist every visit — someone who can provide more individualized care, without the constraints of your insurance plan or the productivity standards common in insurance-based settings.
Some plans include out-of-network benefits that may cover our services. On request, we’ll provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance provider.
What does treatment cost?
The initial consult is free. Current rates for anything beyond it are confirmed with the practice when you book, and the booking portal is where appointment types are listed. If cost is a factor in deciding whether to come in, ask first. It is a reasonable question and you will get a straight answer.
Can I use HSA or FSA funds?
Physical therapy is commonly an eligible medical expense under HSA and FSA plans, but eligibility and documentation requirements are set by your plan administrator, not by the practice. Confirm with your administrator, and ask the practice what receipt or documentation it can provide.
What is the cancellation policy?
Appointments are cancelled or rescheduled through the booking portal, and the current cancellation terms are provided with your booking confirmation. If your plans change, the sooner you move the appointment the better, because it frees the slot for someone else.
How do I contact the practice?
The booking portal handles appointments and secure messaging about your care. The practice is also on Instagram (opens in a new tab). Please keep medical details out of social media messages. See all contact options.
This website is not monitored for emergencies. In an emergency, call 911.
Still have a question?
Ask it through the booking portal before you confirm an appointment, or use one of the contact options. Please do not include detailed medical information in a social media message.
